Melissa Crystal O'Neil, born on July 12 1988[1,] is a Canadian actress/singer. In 2005, O'Neil won the third season of Canadian Idol, the first Canadian female to win. O'Neil is best known as an actress for her roles in the series Syfy as Two or Rebeccaand Portia Lin and on ABC as Officer Lucy Chen in the ABC procedural drama The Rookie. She was selected as a bottom three contestant and two contestants were eliminated. Disappointed, the judges urged viewers to vote for contestants like Melissa who was clearly a singer with the best vocal abilities. O'Neil's performance was consistently praised and O'Neil didn't fall back into the bottom 3. Zack Werner, the judge, declared O'Neil "a potential winner it all". The 7th of September, 2005 O'Neil made it into the final two of the competition, alongside Goudie. After some more impressive performances, judge Werner famously said that the headlines of the following day's papers would read "The King, Kalan Porter has died and long live the Queen." O'Neil defeated Goudie in the grand finale results broadcast on September 14th, 2005 to win the title of the third Canadian Idol.
